Reducing accidents and injuries in the workplace

On Behalf of | May 6, 2019 | Firm News, Workers' Compensation |

Each year, many Minnesotans are seriously injured or killed while they are working at their jobs. A Safety Leadership Conference that was held in Atlanta looked at how the safety culture of companies might be improved so that the risk of injuries might be minimized.

The conference was held by a food services company and was geared towards a safety initiative with multiple goals, including improving the life quality of its workers, improving the life quality of its customers, increasing value, and reducing costs in the context of safety. The conference leaders indicated that in order to improve the safety culture in the workplace, workers must learn how their behaviors might influence the culture and be willing to advocate for improvements.

Companies should begin by viewing all accidents as incidents that are preventable. They should then work to build their safety cultures around this idea. Safety and health should be integrated into everything that people do within the workplace. Companies should work to identify all of the areas of risk and make investments as needed to improve them. Finally, the companies should draft and implement strong safety and health standards that meet or exceed with all of the regulations that are in place.

Workplace accidents can lead to serious injuries and a permanent reduction in the qualities of life for the victims. Most people who are injured on the job are eligible to receive workers’ compensation benefits under their employer’s insurance coverage, and this is generally true regardless of whose fault the accident was. An attorney who has experience in this area can often describe the types of benefits that are available and assist with the preparation and filing of the claim.
